Adams Central baseball off and running
Adams Central baseball notched its first win in school history beating Omaha South
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - In 2020, Adams Central was supposed to hold its inaugural baseball season with upperclassmen lining the roster.
“We had some strong arms and some big bodies and some big bats,” Adams Central baseball coach Travis McCarter said. “We go into this year you know that changed quite a bit. We went from 7 or 8 upperclassmen to 2 or 3 upperclassmen and primarily freshmen and sophomores”
Even with a roster full of underclassmen, the Patriots notched its first win in team history last Saturday beating Omaha South, 14-8.
“I mean it was a big deal especially since it was the first time in Adams Central’s history,” Adams Central sophomore Creighton Jacobitz said. “More importantly not just me taking the bump, its a big deal for the school to start off with a win.”
“It meant a lot to me, being a part of it,” Adams Central junior Tyson Lebar said. “Especially getting that first win under our belt and I think it meant a lot to our school too. Never had baseball before.”
The Patriots scored early and often against Omaha South. While the nerves were there, now they can focus on the rest of the season.
“There was a lot of nerves. Now that we’re going in we just have to think long-term,” Jacobitz said. “This was the first game its a big deal and we have 10 days until our next game. So, we just had to calm down take a step back, relax and focus long-term from now on.”
It took time for Adams Central to get a baseball team but it did not take long for a host of Patriots to want to play for their school.
“I think they knew this class was coming,” McCarter said. “I think they knew that group was coming through and they wanted to give them an opportunity to show what they could do.”
The Patriots got their opportunity and now Adams Central can say they have never lost a baseball game in school history.
They will put that perfect record to the test next Tuesday, March 30 when they host second-rated Norris.
