Kearney man charged with Motor Vehicle Homicide

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Prosecutors charged a man with vehicular homicide in connection with a March incident that killed a Kearney woman.
John Paul, 43, faces a charge of Misdemeanor Motor Vehicle Homicide. A Kearney police department press release issued at the time said that Paul was driving a pickup which struck and killed Veronica Powell, 59, in the 900 block of East 44th street near Harvey Park on March 27. Powell was dead at the scene. Eleanor Powell, 19, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Prosecutors charged Paul June 1. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled in Buffalo County Court July 22. A jury trial is scheduled September 13.
If convicted on the motor vehicle homicide charge, Paul could get up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
