HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Cluch hitting worked in the Hastings College softball teams favor in its 6-4 and 12-11 victory over Mount Marty on a breezy Saturday afternoon at the Smith Softball Complex.

It was all Lancers in game one as MMU had built a 3-0 lead while giving up just one hit heading into the sixth inning. It’s here where the Lady Broncos would made some serious noise as Alyssa Carter (SR/Corona, CA) opended the inning with a single and advanced to second on the right fielders bobble. Julia Reimer (JR/Hastings, NE) reached first on a walk followed by a single from Mattie Hogrefe (JR/Lincoln, NE) to load the bases.

Anastasia Krueger (SO/Lincoln, NE) then singled home Carter to make it a 3-1 game. Taylor Stuhr (SO/Wahoo, NE) stepped to the plate and worked the count to full before belting a grand slam to left to give Hastings the 5-3 lead. Kyra Maguire (SR/Wymore, NE) did allow two singles in the top of the seventh but that was it as HC held on for the 5-3 victory.

Stuhr did have just the one hit going 1-for-3 but the four RBIs from the grand slam proved to be the difference. Maguire went a complete game 7.0 innings giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out three.

Game two was played at a much slower pace and the bats rung wild in this high scoring affair.

The Lancers appeared to grab control of game two leading 8-5 heading into the bottom of the fifth but the Hastings’ bats had other plans.

Stuhr opened the inning with a solo home run to make it 8-6 and then following two walks and a single to load the bases, Carter lifted a ball to deep left field clearing the fence for another grand slam to give the Lady Broncos the 10-8 advantage. MMU would pick up one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to regain the lead at 11-10 heading to the bottom of the seventh.

Bailey Collingham (JR/Aurora, NE) reached first on an error from the shortstop while Carter followed suit with a single to put runners on first and second with no outs. Julia Reimer bunted the runners to second and third and then Hogrefe hit into a fielders choice at third but Collingham beat the third baseman back to the bag avoiding the tag to load the bases with just one out. Krueger saw a few good pitches before hitting a frozen rope to the left field fence to bring home Collingham and Carter to win the game 12-11.

Krueger had herself a day going 2-for-5 with five RBIs while Carter also went 2-for-5 with four RBIs. Collingham finished the game going 2-for-4 with a RBI and three runs scored.

Hastings improves to 10-13 (2-2) on the year and will be back in action Sunday March 28 as Mayville State comes to town with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. at the Smith Softball Complex.
