HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hastings Police were able to arrest a man in the act of trying to steal cash registers from a local business.

Just before 11 p.m. Sunday, police were called to the Shirt Shack on North Lincoln Avenue in downtown Hastings after the owner saw a person in the store on video from the store’s security cameras.

When police arrived at Shirt Shack, they found the suspect climbing out of a hole he had apparently broken out in the front door. He had two cash registers and merchandise from the store with him.

Jorge Garcia-Irias, 23, was arrested at the scene without incident for burglary. No value of the items taken has been established.

Police are also charging Garcia-Irias with burglary at Big Dally’s Deli downtown location after employees came into work Monday and found it had been burglarized. Police said cash was taken from the register. The two locations are only a block apart.
