Cause of train derailment still being investigated
GIBBON Neb. (KSNB) - All rail lines are back open following a train derailment in Gibbon last Wedesday.
Twenty-eight cars of a Union Pacific train went off the tracks around 3:45 p.m. on March 31.
It was a mixed freight train, but as of late Wednesday afternoon it was believed nothing had spilled.
No one was injured, according to UP but Pawnee and Range roads were closed as a result of the derailment. Crossings have since reopened.
The train was on its way to North Platte when it derailed in Gibbon.
Union Pacific told Local4 all lines were back open by 8:30 p.m. Friday.
The cause is under investigation. Union Pacific will report its findings to the Federal Railroad Administration, who will issue the final determination of cause.
