Buffalo, Hall Co. deputies on lookout for distracted driving

GRAND ISLAND/KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Law enforcement agencies across the country, including the Hall County and Buffalo County Sheriff’s Offices, will participate in a nationwide campaign later this month.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded $2,000 through NDOT-Highway Safety Office to conduct selective enforcement for the, “U Drive. U Text. U pay” grant.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office also received a grant to utilize extra deputies for the National U Drive. U Text. U Pay. mobilization.

The campaign takes place from April 8 through April 12, with the goal of reminding drivers about the dangers and consequences of texting and distracted driving.

Deputies will target all traffic violations with an emphasis on issuing citations for distracted driver violations.

The objective is to decrease the increasing trend of distracted driver fatal, A and B crashes by 1.0 percent from 889 (5 year rolling average in 2014-2018) to 990, by December 31, 2021

This annual campaign is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s national U Drive. U Text. U Pay. High-visibility enforcement effort.
