Hastings College Women’s Soccer loses heartbreaker to Jamestown
Broncos fall 2-1 in GPAC Quarterfinals
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings College women’s soccer team just couldn’t seem to find its feet as Jamestown came in and defeated the Lady Broncos 2-1 on a warm Saturday afternoon on Lloyd Wilson Field. This loss in the quarterfinal round of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament officially ends Hastings’ season.
Early on, there was a lot of pressure put on by the Jimmies including a shot from Lissette Escobedo that beat Sarah Carpenter (SR/Olathe, KS) but bounced back into play off the crossbar in the 11th minute.
In the 21st minute, Kaitlyn Chavira (JR/Lakewood, CO) found Dekota Schubert (FR/Castle Rock, CO) open in the middle of the field where she would work her way to about 25 yards and placing a perfect shot to the left of the keeper for the 1-0 lead.
In the 38th minute, Jamestown sent a corner into the box where Briana Perry got a foot on it and the ball slowly rolled to Autumn Opperud where she guided it into the side net to tie the game 1-1.
That score line held into the 56th minute when the Jimmies were on a break where Claire Struble sent a cross in that Penelope Hoppe headed home to take the 2-1 lead.
From there, Hastings would really have a tough time putting pressure on the Jimmie back line and eventually lost 2-1.
Hastings was out shot 18-to-6 including 8-to-3 in shots on goal. Carpenter finished with six saves.
HC finishes is season at 12-6.
