GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Central District Health Department has opened up their vaccination eligibility to anyone 18 years old and up starting on Monday.

More than 300 people packed into the lobby to wait for their shot, including Grand Island resident Richard Cleveland.

Cleveland told Local4 News he comes from a family of hospital workers and was the last one to get his shot. When he found out he was eligible, he said he rushed right over to the health department. He received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccination on Monday and says it’s a huge relief to him.

“I was looking for the vaccine since I could get it and today was the day,” Cleveland said. “My advice is to go out and get your vaccine as soon as you can get it, for peace of mind if nothing else.”

Cleveland works in the kitchen of a local restaurant, so he doesn’t get much exposure to the public. He said the vaccination will give him that peace of mind though when it comes to just hanging out with family and friends.

“The COVID didn’t really change my life too much because I don’t get out much, but my friends had to take a lot of precautions,” he said. “Now that I am getting my vaccine, I will be more at ease when I go out.”

CDHD had left over doses on Monday and continued to vaccinate at the Fonner Park Fieldhouse until 7 p.m.
