Reimers named Region 6 Freshman of the Year
UNK Wrestling’s Joseph Reimers was voted F.O.Y by the NWCA
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Nebraska-Kearney redshirt freshman Joseph Reimers has been named the 2021 Super Region VI “Rookie of the Year” by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).
On Monday, the NWCA announced the winners of both the Division II Wrestler of the Year and Rookie Wrestler of the Year awards.
Reimers (Seward/David City Aquinas H.S.) was one of nine Lopers to earn All-American honors this year, placing fourth at 197 pounds. He finished his first year with a 16-4 mark which included six falls, four tech falls and a major. Reimers was the 2021 MIAA Freshman of the Year, was tabbed second-team All-MIAA and was runner up at the Super Region VI Championships. Off the mat he carries a 3.56 cumulative grade point average as a Physician Assistant major.
Upper Iowa’s Zach Ryg, who bested Reimers in the NCAA third place match, was named the National Rookie of the Year. He went 12-1 this past winter and was a Region champion. St. Cloud State heavyweight Kameron Frame was named the National Wrestler of the Year.
UNK and Reimers finished as National Runners Up, scoring 105.50 points to just trail St. Cloud (107.0). The Lopers also won Super Region VI and went 10-3 in duals.
