HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hastings College football has the rare regular season game this spring. The Broncos travel to 18th ranked Benedictine College who are a bubble team to make the NAIA Football Playoffs.

At 2-7, Hastings College is aiming to evaluate talent especially since its Matt Franzen’s first year with the Broncos.

Looking at quarterback, sophomores John Zamora and Jesse Ulrich have battled it out this spring. Franzen said Zamora will start under center this Saturday.

“Between the two of them there’s not a vast difference,” Franzen said. “Both of them have done good things in the spring. John’s been a little bit more consistent for us and that’ll earn him the nod at least as the starter but we plan on playing both of the guys throughout the game on Saturday.”

“It’s been fun,” Zamora said. “We’re good friends. We have a great time competing with each other. So this is just a real enjoyment for me.”

Both Zamora and Ulrich have starting experience from the fall and Franzen expects them to continue to battle heading into the summer.

Kick-off for Saturday’s game is at 2 p.m.
