Hastings Parks & Rec preparing for busy season
Registration is either here or approaching for many events and leagues
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - After a slightly scaled back version of early spring and summer in 2020 for the Hastings Parks & Recreation Department, the staff is gearing up for a busy 2021.
“We try to do them as much as we can and we’ve been submitting everything to the health department just to be on the safe side and get their approval,” Parks & Rec Recreation Superintendent Ryan Martin said. “We plan on getting back to normal here and with everything warming up its nice to have events outside.”
The most anticipated announcement is the opening of the Hastings Aquacourt, which will open at full capacity over Memorial Day weekend.
“Since we had a year off everyone’s excited to be a part of the water park and we’re looking forward to that,” Martin said.
Registration has arrived or is near for most of the leagues and events taking place in late April and May. Registration for adult softball ends on Friday, April 16 and registration is now open for youth fast pitch softball.
On April 25 the department is hosting a Bicycle Sunday Funday which runs through the Pioneer Spirit Trail in Hastings and has stops and games along the way. That event is free.
On May 6 the youth track and field meet will take place at Hastings High. That event is for 8-year-olds through 13-year-olds and also free.
May 8 will be the Pepsi disc golf tournament at Lib’s Park and Lake Hastings an on May 21 there will be the first of three Movie in the Park nights at Lib’s Park.
A calendar of events, information on leagues and events and how to register can be found on the Hastings Parks & Rec website.
