GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Gage Long signed his national letter of intent to run cross country and track at the U.S. Naval Academy. It is no small feat for a kid from Central Nebraska to get looks from an East Coast school, let alone a Division I program with the stature the Naval Academy has.

Long said he received offers from schools closer to home but when the Naval Academy came calling he could not pass it up.

“Having the opportunity to serve our country and receive a top notch education and compete in Division One sports is such a great situation,” Long said. “I’m planning on majoring in Political Science so being there right outside D.C. is just awesome.”

Long is finishing the track season at Grand Island Senior High before heading to Annapolis, Maryland this summer.
