Grand Island teen assaults police following joyride

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A Grand Island teen found herself in hot water following a joyride Thursday afternoon.

According to Grand Island Police, the incident happen around 12:40 p.m. near Grand Island Senior High.

Officers were notified that a 15-year-old female had taken another students vehicle without authorization and was driving it around.

Police said they located the girl near Capitol Avenue and Sycamore Street, but that it took some time before the driver was stopped.

Once stopped police said the teen became combative and tried kicking both officers in the groin area.

The teen was apprehended and cited for unauthorized use of a propelled Vehicle, flight to avoid arrest, MIP-tobacco, and misuse of a school permit.
