Kearney comes back to win “El Clasico”

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - It had been two years since Kearney and Grand Island played in their annual “El Clasico” rivalry game. The last two times they split the match-up with the Bearcats winning in 2019, 3-0.

This afternoon, Grand Island dominated possession in the first half with Javier Baide scoring in the 26th minute off a Diego Salas’ cross.

Kearney responded in the 36th minute where the Bearcats took advantage of a corner kick. Eli Randolph scored off a wonder strike from 30 plus yards out to tie the game at one heading into the locker room.

At the start of the second half, Bearcat Ashton Calcaterra scored the game winner as Kearney won, 2-1. The Bearcats have won five of their last six games.

Kearney improved to 8-4 while Grand Island fell to 6-5.
