Hastings College softball drops doubleheader to Jamestown
Broncos lose Game One 11-6, Game Two 20-4
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings College softball team ran into a Jamestown team that utilized two huge innings to defeat the Lady Broncos 11-6 and then 20-4 on Saturday afternoon at the Smith Softball Complex.
Game one only had the Jimmies leading 2-0 into the fifth inning but then the bats came alive to the tune of nine runs which included four home runs to take the lead 11-0.
Jamestown then changed pitchers and the HC bats came to life scoring six runs on six hits to get back into the game at 11-6 but then the Jimmies put their starter Kat Miska back into the game in the sixth and HC was unable to get much else going in game one.
Alyssa Carter (SR/Corona, CA), Sydney Schelkopf (JR/Geneva, NE), Anastasia Krueger (SO/Lincoln, NE) and Mattie Hogrefe (JR/Lincoln, NE) each had two hits in game one.
Game two saw a huge 10 run fourth inning followed by a five run fifth inning that sealed the fate of Hastings in game two. The Jimmies pounded out 23 hits to just six for HC.
Schelkopf was the lone Bronco with two hits going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Taylor Stuhr (SO/Wahoo, NE) and Kyleigh Boever (SO/Omaha, NE) each finished with two RBIs.
Hastings fallls to 14-25 (6-12) on the year and will be back in action Tuesday April 27 as Doane comes to town with first pitch set for 5:00 p.m. at the Smith Softball Complex.
