Hastings wins 10-inning thriller over Grand Island
Hastings High beats rival Grand Island in 10-innings, 6-5
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Highway 281 rivalry was renewed on the diamond this afternoon at Duncan Field. Hastings and Grand Island gave fans their moneys worth playing a 10-inning thriller with the Tigers coming out on top, 6-5.
They entered extras tied 2-2 with the Islanders breaking the tie in the top of the ninth. Eli Arends RBI single and Jackson Hansen getting hit by pitch gave Grand Island a 4-2 lead.
In the bottom of the frame, Trayton Newman’s 2-RBI single tied the game again 4-4. Newman started the game for Hastings pitching 7.0 innings.
In the 10th, Arends once again gave Grand Island the lead with a bases loaded RBI single. Hastings pitcher Isaiah Henry got out of the jam getting a groundout to limit the damage to one run.
In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers won off two wild pitches from Zach Kissack as Trevor Sullivan slid home for the game-winning run.
Hastings improved to 12-5 while Grand Island dropped to 5-10.
