GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Sleepy Eyes Todd is back at Fonner Park to compete in the $75,000 Bosselman Pump-Pantry/Gus Fonner Stakes on Saturday, April 24.

Sleepy Eyes Todd won the Bosselman Stakes in 2020 by 6 1/2 lengths and went on to see major success after leaving Fonner Park.

“What happened to him after his racing here at Fonner Park is just sort of mind blowing. The fact that he would come back. He won three major races after he left Fonner Park last year,” Fonner Park CEO Chris Kotulak said. “His last three races are against some of the best horses in the world, they were all multi-million dollar races.

Sleepy Eyes Todd won stake races at Keeneland, Charles Town and Gulfstream before heading out of the country. He raced in million dollar races in Saudi Arabia and Dubai, placing 5th and 10th respectively.

Kotulak put into perspective what it means to have a horse like Sleepy Eyes Todd return to Fonner Park.

“Let’s say Kenny Chesney came and performed at the Heartland Events Center when he was sort of young and up and coming,” Kotulak said. “Well, now we know he’s a massive performer. It would be like Kenny Chesney saying, ‘You know what I had a good time at Fonner Park. I’m going to go back and perform there.’ That’s what its like to have Sleepy Eyes Todd come back and run on Saturday afternoon.”

Kotulak said Fonner Park is sold out for tomorrow’s races but you can watch the races for free on Fonner Park’s website.
