Jeff Balz to take over Grand Island girls basketball program
Grand Island Senior High names Jeff Balz its new girls basketball coach
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Jeffrey Balz has been named the new head girls basketball coach at Grand Island Senior High School.
“I am super excited to take on this opportunity,” said Balz. “It will be a challenge, but I have faith that these student-athletes of ours are willing to work hard and get the ball bouncing in the right direction. I have known some of them from being involved with the team previously and we have some outstanding young women on this team. I look forward to working with them and the ones I have yet to meet, to help them become better people and better basketball players.”
Mr. Balz is a Social Studies teacher in the Academy of Engineering & Technology, and most recently served as an assistant boys basketball coach at GISH.
“Coach Balz checks all the boxes to be successful as the head girls basketball coach at Grand Island Senior High,” said GISH boys basketball coach Jeremiah Slough. “His understanding of the game complemented by his willingness and ability to develop positive relationships should provide a strong foundation for our girls program. In the short time that he was on our staff, it was evident that Coach Balz has the intangibles of a successful head basketball coach. We thank him for his commitment to the Islander boys basketball team and wish him the best of luck in his new role.
“We are excited for Mr. Balz to lead our girls basketball team moving forward,” said GISH Activities Director Cindy Wells. “He has a great understanding of our athletic programs and will instill a culture of success on and off the court for our Islanders.”
