HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings College softball team knew that if at least a split didn’t happen against Doane, then its postseason hopes would be gone but HC did just that after dropping game one 6-1 came back to win 3-2 on Tuesday night at the Smith Softball Complex.

The Lady Broncos really struggled to to threaten much in game one scoring its lone run in the third off an Alyssa Carter (SR/Corona, CA) RBI double.

After falling behind 6-1, HC threatened in the sixth loading the bases with no outs but could come up with the big hit ending the inning with no runs as game one went to the Tigers.

Carter finished game one going 2-for-4 with a RBI.

Kyra Maguire (SR/Wymore, NE) did what she had to do throwing 6.0 solid innings giving up just two runs on four hits while striking out four. This allowed Hastings to stay in the game and put HC in a position to possibly pick up the much needed split.

Hastings would take the lead 1-0 in the third off an Elana Gerhard (FR/Loveland, CO) RBI double. Doane countered with two runs in the fourth but it would not last long as Carter led the fifth off with a double. She then scored on the Gerhard RBI ground out tying the game 2-2.

Hannah Norquest (SO/York, NE) came in in relief in the seventh after a lead off single but she managed to keep Doane off the board allowing the bats to go back to work.

Julia Reimer (JR/Hastings, NE) started the inning reaching on a hit by pitch. Carter followed suit with a single and then Gerhard reached on a two out walk to load the bases. Anastasia Krueger (SO/Lincoln, NE) took the 3-2 pitch hitting a grounder to short where Jade Hill bobbled the ball allowing Krueger to just beat the throw at first allowing the winning run Reimer to score giving game two to Hastings 3-2.

Carter again led the way at the plate going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Gerhard went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

With the win, Hastings is now 15-26 (7-13) on the year and will be back in action Saturday May 1 hitting the road to take on Briar Cliff in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Sioux City, IA.

Hastings is currently sitting in a tie for 9th with the Chargers in the Great Plains Athletic Conference and would need to sweep BCU and then have Concordia sweep Dordt in order to qualify for the conference tournament.
