HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The nonprofits involved in Give Hastings Day are celebrating after bringing in more than $80,000 than what was brought in during 2020.

As of Friday morning the nonprofits raised more than $668,000 from 4,153 donations to 93 organizations. With additional gifts received the following day, the 2021 Give Hastings Day total is up to $673,420.

“We’re obviously thrilled with the result,” said Dan Peters, executive director of Hastings community Foundation, the host organization for Give Hastings Day. “It’s exciting to see these kinds of numbers, but this day is about so much more than the total raised. The outcome of this Give Day is recognition that the efforts of our nonprofit organizations are valued and appreciated. Our community should feel very proud of what we achieved together.”

The Hastings YMCA was the top receiver of donations followed by Hastings College, Hastings Catholic Schools Foundation, Prairie Loft Center and Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska - Hastings Regional Office.

Prairie Loft Center, Start Over Rover, Hastings Museum, Wellspring Pregnancy + Health Center and Heartland Pet Connection were in the top five of the number of unique donations.

“We were very surprised to be on top of the leaderboard,” said Troy Stickels, CEO of the Hastings Family YMCA. “It’s a great reward for our staff because they work hard every day to improve our community, and this shows that people recognize the work we are doing. We are blessed to have unbelievable support from our community, and you saw yesterday, just one more reason why this is a special place to live.”

“To have this kind of success on Give Day takes a year-round effort,” said Peters. “It’s the months of planning by our Give Hastings Day committee, the support of our sponsors, the constant work of our nonprofit community, and the ongoing support donors that allows us to celebrate this record-breaking day.”

Prior to Give Hastings Day, Dan Peters, the Executive Director of the Hastings Community Foundation, told Local4 that the goal was to surpass $600,000 after raising over $500,000 in 2020.

Since 2014, Give Hastings Day has raised more than $3.5 million for area nonprofit organizations. Give Hastings Day is a service of the Hastings Community Foundation.
