HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hastings’ offense waited until the sixth-inning to come alive against Omaha Concordia/Brownell Talbot/Omaha Christian Academy. The Tigers three-runs propelled them past Concordia, 3-1.

The majority of the game was a pitchers dual between Concordia’s Karsten Mathsen and Hastings’ Trayton Newman. Mathsen pitched six-innings and had a no-hitter going until the fifth inning. Newman went 6.0 innings, allowing only one earned run.

Concordia struck first in the top of the fifth with Mathsen’s RBI single giving them a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Braden Kalvelage led the inning with a walk. Justin Musgrave followed suit with a single. Luke Brooks’ grounded into a fielders choice which brought home Kalvelage after the runners advanced on a wild pitch.

If he had not already done enough, Newman brought home the game-winning run off his single with two outs to put Hastings on top 2-1. Brayden Mackey sealed the deal with his RBI single to complete the three-run rally.

In the seventh, Markus Miller closed it out throwing two strikeouts before getting the final batter to ground out.

Hastings advances to the B-1 District final tomorrow where they will host Wayne (12-7). First pitch set for 12 p.m.
