Northwest wins district title for second straight season

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Grand Island Northwest and GICC boys soccer team is heading back to Morrison Stadium for the second straight season. The Vikings beat Ralston, 1-0.

Northwest dominated the first half getting numerous chances to score. Finally in the closing minutes of the half, Najib Ortiz scored the game-winner off a free kick as the Vikings won the Class B-6 District title. It is their fifth trip to the State Tournament in program history.

The Vikings (12-3) are the five-seed in the Class B bracket and face Bennington (15-3) in the first round on Thursday, May 13 at 7 p.m.
