HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings City Council voted unanimously Monday night to approve the plans for the future of the old Imperial Mall.

Part of the area will now become new housing, another part will be a city recreation center and there will also be room for different commercial buildings.

Hastings’ Developmental Director Lisa Parnell-Rower told Local4 News the city is growing quickly and these additions are very much needed now.

“We are very excited about this,” Parnell-Rowe said. “When you do this, you just make sure everything is in checks and balance and that’s what we’re doing. It’s all part of the planning process.”

Monday night’s approval is still just beginning of the process. The next step is approval from the FAA on the height of the buildings.

“We are getting progress there,” Parnell-Rowe said. “Once they do that, it falls back on the local code which we have an airport zoning code that we’ll evaluate their development plan with those structures.”
