Hastings boys, Northwest girls, win big at District B-5 Championship

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Track and Field athletes from Class B schools across the Tri-Cities area gathered in Aurora for a chance to punch their ticket to State.

In the Girls 100 meter dash, Northwest’s Samantha Roby and Avyn Urbanski finished 1st and 2nd, to qualify for State. Aurora’s Kaylee Crosby finished 3rd, to also earn a spot in Omaha.

In the Boys 100 meter dash, Hastings’ Carson Shoemaker and David Smith finished 1st and 3rd, and Northwest’s Victor Isele finished 2nd, as they advance to State.

The Boys 400 meter dash came down to the wire, as St. Paul’s Conner Wells squeaked out the victory against Hastings’ Zaide Weidner. St. Paul’s Rylan Birkby also qualified, coming in third place.

As for teams, the Northwest girls team took home the District B-5 championship, and for the first time since 1988 the Hastings boys team won their district.
