Kearney businesses plant new roots in downtown area
KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Whether it’s needing a fresh location or just a young and vibrant area, some Kearney businesses are looking to The Bricks to plant roots.
Contour Med + Aesthetics is one of the newest businesses downtown on the bricks. Having moved in just this past February, owner Rylee Horsley said it’s more than just the location of being downtown that she loves, but the support from other businesses within the downtown area that’s also special.
“I just feel like the downtown area is such a community. That’s what I love about Kearney and there’s such a sense of community within the downtown space,” she said.
When a business moves into their location, not only do they set up shop, but they’re also encouraged to make the space their own. Businesses are able to utilize grants like the Downtown Revitalization Grant to help preserve the natural charm of the buildings. It’s another element of downtown that draws in appeal.
Horsley has put her own unique touch on the 136-year-old building on North Railroad Street.
“The outpouring of interest within the space has been really positive,” Horsley said. “So it’s been really fun to get people in here. Just to give it a new life was probably one of the coolest things that I’ve been able to be apart of.”
Horsley’s business isn’t the only one taking advantage of the what The Bricks has to offer, with art galleries, boutiques, and other unique shops continuing to fill in the downtown area.
