Sodbusters win slugfest to open season

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings Sodbusters opened its 2021 campaign beating the Fremont Moo in an offensive slugfest, 10-9.

Pitching may have been an after thought but Hastings High fans were given a treat seeing former Tigers Laif Hultine and Jake Schroeder take the mound.

Hultine pitched 3.0 innings, allowed two runs and struck out four batters. Schroeder also went 3.0 innings, allowed three runs and struck out three batters.

Offensively, the Sodbusters were paced by Trevor Mattson who went 2-3 with 3 RBI. Kearney native Nick Carlson was second with two RBI.

Hastings improved to 1-0. They host the Moo again on Monday, May 24. First pitch set for 6:35 p.m.
