HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hastings Five Points Bank Chiefs opened its slate of games for the Grand Island/Hasting Senior Invite with a six-inning shutout win over Seward, 8-0.

Starter Creighton Jacobitz pitched 5.2 innings with nine strikeouts to keep the Bluejays’ offense stifled at Duncan Field.

Hastings opened the scoring with smart base-running in the second inning. With runners at the corners, Brayden Mackey stole second and Macrae Husyer scored from third as Seward’s shortstop Malachi Lyon could not handle the throw.

In the bottom of the third, Trayton Newman’s RBI single brought home Justin Musgrave as Five Points went up 2-0. Cambren Montague led the Chiefs with 2-RBI.

Hastings hosts Waverly tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
