RED CLOUD, Neb. (KSNB) - The annual, spring conference put on by the Willa Cather Center was fully virtual in 2020 and is back this year with a hybrid format of both in-person and virtual events.

The conference, in its 66th year, will begin Thursday, June 3 and run through the evening on Saturday, June 5. The theme of this year’s conference is “Willa Cather and popular print culture”.

“It’s long been known that Cather’s life was definitely intertwined with newspapers and magazines,” Ashley Olson, the Executive Director of the Willa Cather Center, said. “She was both a writer and contributor and editor to newspapers and magazines throughout her life.”

The majority of the events put on as part of the conference will be virtual including the keynote speaker. On Saturday there will be on-site activities for people to participate in, including events at the Red Cloud Opera House, open houses at historical sites around town and a guided prairie tour at the Willa Cather Memorial Prairie. Each in-person event will have a virtual component so all can participate.
