HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Half Hastings is back for another year of the half marathon and 5K races and organizers are asking for volunteers to help out on race day.

The races are set to take place Saturday, June 5 and there are spots available before the races, during and after to volunteer.

“The city wouldn’t let us do it if we didn’t have people helping at intersections and it wouldn’t be safe,” Race Director Mike Florek said. “So no, we couldn’t put the race on if we didn’t have volunteers, they are essential.”

Volunteer tasks range from setting up, taking down, handing out medals at the finish line, handing out water cups and directing traffic. Florek encourages people to come out and support the runners even if they don’t volunteer.

Anyone interested in volunteering can visit the Half Hastings website and click on the “contact us” tab to fill out a form with their information and when they’d like to volunteer. There are slots available throughout the day yet and volunteers can put in where they’d like to volunteer along the route as well.

The races start at Hastings Middle School and end at the 50 yard line of Lloyd Wilson Field. The half starts first and begins at 7:30 a.m.
