KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - The Down Syndrome Advocates and Action Kearney chapter hosted its tenth annual Buddy Walk on Sunday.

Normally they do it inside but due to the pandemic they did it outside this year at Yanney Heritage Park.

The organization does this event every year to raise awareness and money for down syndrome. This year the theme was inclusion and they wanted to spread the message that people with down syndrome are the same as everybody else.

“When they’re included with their peers, it not only benefits our kids but it benefits their peers as well. They learn compassion, they learn how to relate to people that might be different than them,” said the chapter’s Community Coordinator Suzanne McDonald.

There were dozens of families who walked a mile around the park for the event and when they were done, participants received medals at the finish line.
