GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A fire at Heartland Disposal caused estimated damage in the $700,000 range, according to Grand Island Fire Battalion Chief Ed Carlin.

Grand Island Fire was called to the structure fire at 1839 E 4th at 1:23 p.m. Monday. When crews arrived, heavy smoke could be seen coming from the back of the building.

The fire was contained to a shredder compactor machine. Carlin said repair work was being done on it at the time of the fire.

Besides damage to the machinery, there was some heat and smoke damage done to the building.

Crews were able to get the fire put out but did have to wait for electricity to be disconnected by city utilities to put out a portion of the fire.

Nobody was injured.
