Heat remains and rain chances return to the forecast
June 8, 2021 Morning Forecast
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Wednesday through Thursday time frame will likely be mostly dry with mostly sunny skies. There may still be some showers and isolated thunderstorms Wednesday morning, but they will weaken and diminish as the morning goes on. By the afternoon, there will be more sunshine. Warmer temperatures will be moving in for a couple of days. Highs on Wednesday will be back to the upper 80s and low to mid 90s with the warmest temperatures in the east. Thursday will be on the hot and breezy side across the area, reaching the low to mid 90s. A few spots may get to the upper 90s.
Thursday night, thunderstorms are expected to develop along a cold front in Western Nebraska. They will push eastward across the area Thursday night into Friday morning. This will be the best chance of showers and thunderstorms this week, but is not a guarantee of rain. The Storm Prediction Center has a threat for severe weather marked for areas near and northwest of the Tri-Cities. Damaging wind gusts will be the biggest threat and the chance will be greater the farther northwest you go. Some of the showers and thunderstorms will continue into Friday morning. By Friday afternoon, the chances will likely only remain in far eastern areas. Overall during the 24 hour time frame, the chances for rain will be greater in Northern Nebraska and lower in Southern Nebraska/Northern Kansas. It will be a cooler day on Friday behind the cold front. Breezy north winds will keep highs mostly in the upper 70s and low to mid 80s. It may be a little warmer in Eastern Nebraska, but that will be determined by timing of the thunderstorms. Expect more sunshine and warmer temperatures this weekend. Highs on Saturday will be back to the mid to upper 80s. Low and mid 90s will be more common on Sunday and Monday. A slight chance for rain and thunderstorms returns Monday afternoon/night.
