Families escape summer heat at Island Oasis Water Park
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - With temperatures being in the upper eighties and nineties the past week, people finally got a chance to cool off at the Island Oasis Water Park. This after being closed for nearly two years.
Island Oasis has been open ever since Memorial Day and park managers said it’s been really busy on weekends and pretty steady on weekdays.
Briseida Slamenco came with her entire family on Wednesday and she said her kids were eager to get in the water.
“It’s exciting. It’s very exciting,” Slamenco said. “My kids are so happy to be here. They’ve been up since 6 a.m. ready with their towel and everything because I told them since yesterday we were coming on my day off.”
Slamenco is relieved they’re finally open, especially since her kids were heartbroken when they were closed last summer.
“We always get the family pass for the whole summer and I was just like, we’re not going to get it this year because it’s closed and they were just tore, they were tore,” Slamenco said.
Park managers said they are happy to see people back enjoying the park again this year. Even though they’re short on lifeguards and have had to close earlier because of it.
“It was very sad that we didn’t get to open over here last year. We did open Lincoln pool last year, our smaller facility and so it’s been really nice to be back over here and have our bigger facility open for patrons and for staff.”
Island Oasis is still looking to hire more lifeguards. So, if you’re interested in a job apply online or call (308) 385-5381 for more information.
