Badges Across America highlights Hastings Police Department
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Police officers in Hastings are being treated to some professional photos this week through the organization called Badges Across America. The organization was founded by Charlie Simmons, a retired officer from Colorado.
He travels the country and takes both action shots of officers working and also staged photos. He says it’s a good way to humanize the police and bridge the gap between communities and their officers.
“By doing the photos and stuff like that, showing them at the job doing the job, introducing them to the officer they might see and now know who they are, now they have a picture,” he told Local4 News.
Simmons said when he retired he said he had very few pictures of his time on the job and wanted to change that for others.
“You see a lot of selfies in bathroom mirrors and stuff like that but to me it was just not doing them justice,” Simmons said. “For the job they do and the people they are, it just wasn’t doing them justice. I wanted to give them high quality great portrait of them in their environment doing their jobs through ride-alongs or just out on the streets doing their jobs and stuff like that.”
You can see pictures of HPD and all the other departments on their website.
