HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Under mainly sunny skies, south southwest winds will increase Tuesday, getting up to around 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph. This will quickly return some heat to the area. Highs temperatures will range from the upper 80s east to the mid 90s west. Later in the afternoon and into the evening, a few showers and thunderstorms may fire up in Northeast and East Central Nebraska, then push south southeastward through the eastern part of the state. Some severe storms will be possible with large hail and damaging wind gusts the main threats.

Even more heat builds in for Wednesday as widespread 90s are expected. A few may get above 100° in western parts of the area. There will be a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. Another fairly hot day is expected ahead of an approaching cold front. We’ll see temperatures return to the 90s. The timing of the cold front will determine how our thunderstorm chances play out between Thursday afternoon and Friday night. These look like some of our better chances for the area that may come in one or multiple rounds. Some severe weather is likely, but it is too soon to determine where the best chance or chances would be.

Friday is shaping up to be a cooler day with highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s, but will again depend on the placement of rain. Much of the weekend is looking to be dry, although a small chance for rain may need to be included, mainly Sunday. Temperatures over the weekend are still a bit uncertain. We’re looking at low to mid 80s on Saturday. Sunday may be just a touch warmer than Saturday. Stay tuned as adjustments to the forecast will need to be made.
