WOOD RIVER, Neb. (KSNB) - As the Fourth of July approaches and firework shows begin to take place, the bright lights and loud noises can be triggering for some veterans or those with PTSD.

The Business Coalition for Veterans is partnering with Anglers United to host the second annual Mervin Gustafson Veteran Picnic and Fishing Tournament to give them a safe space to get away from the holiday excitement.

The event will be held on a 74-acre private property that is adjacent to the Cheyenne State Recreation Area in Wood River on a property owned by Navy veteran, Lee Meents. Meents has dedicated the west lake to veterans, which is where the fishing tournament will take place.

There will also be a picnic that will include burgers, smoked sausage, and bottled water provided by the BCV. People who attend are welcome to bring lawn chairs, side dishes and non-alcoholic beverages.

It will take place on July 3rd from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 11572 South 150th Road Wood River, NE.

For more information or questions about the picnic, you can reach out to the Business Coalition for Veterans.
