Scanlan’s Showcase: Henry Kosmicki
This week’s Scanlan’s Showcase highlights Grand Island golfer Henry Kosmicki
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Joe and Henry battle at Riverside Golf Club
Watching Grand Island’s Henry Kosmicki on the golf course, you’d think that he’s been playing his whole life.
What if that wasn’t the case? What if he actually started playing as a freshman in high school?
That’s exactly what Kosmicki did.
“My brother actually played golf. I decided that I was gonna try to take it up, and now we’re here,” Kosmicki said.
Last year as a junior, he made it to the State tournament, coming in 9th place out of all high school golfers in Nebraska.
How did he get to be that good so fast? Practice.
“I was out [at Riverside] a lot,” Kosmicki explained. “You can ask a lot of the guys out here, they’d see me a lot so that and instruction from the guys in the pro shop definitely helped. They’d give me tips, and that was always good.”
When it comes to his approach to the game, Kosmicki keeps it simple.
“[I] just try to do my best every day, but don’t let it frustrate me because obviously golf is a frustrating game, and if you let it frustrate you too quick then you’ll be taking steps backwards in your progress. Not every day goes perfect.”
That approach led Kosmicki to some spectacular moments last spring, including a hole in one at Riverside Golf Club during the GI Cup.
As he looks ahead to his senior year, Kosmicki has some big plans.
“Hopefully to make State again, and medal, and try to play the best golf I can.”
