HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - It was a matchup for the ages at Memorial Field on Sunday night, as Hastings Five Points Bank took on Kearney Runza, with the winner advancing to the District Championship game.

Early on, it was all about the defense, as Hastings’ Trayton Newman struck out batter after batter, and Kearney’s Lucas Wagner made a spectacular catch in center field.

However, the Chiefs bats would get hot late, as they take down Kearney Runza 9-1.

Gabe Conant went 3-3 with two doubles and three RBI’s, Justin Musgrave went 2-2 with a double, and Newman went 2-4 with two RBI’s to go along with 6.3 innings pitched, four hits allowed, one run, and nine strikeouts.

The Chiefs move on to the championship game on Tuesday, as well as clinch a berth in a state tournament. Meanwhile, Kearney Runza will be back in action tomorrow against North Platte, with their season on the line.
