HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hastings Police Department are continuing to investigate after a shooting in Hastings left a 28-year-old man dead late Friday night.

“I think when something like this happens in our community or your own neighborhood, it’s something you should be concerned about,” Captain Mike Doremus said. “We are very confident that everybody is safe and the public isn’t in anyway in danger from what took place.”

Just before 10 p.m., officers were called for a man with a gunshot wound. The victim was deceased by the time officers arrived on scene. just down South Pine Avenue.

Doremus said all witnesses and people involved stayed at that location and cooperated with police, but they are still working to figure out exactly what happened.

“Everything has been secured and everyone involved has been spoken to,” he said. “At this point we just need to continue to give us the opportunity to make sure we can do a decent job and make sure we find out exactly what happened.”
