HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Today will be a hot and humid day around the area as high temperatures push into the 90s to near 100°. Heat index values could meet or exceed 105° in parts of Central to Eastern Nebraska as well as North Central Kansas during the afternoon and early evening. There may be a couple of pesky showers around parts of Central Nebraska, but many will see mostly sunny skies. That does complicate the temperature forecast a bit for those that do have extra clouds. This evening, some isolated thunderstorms cannot be ruled out for parts of Central to Eastern Nebraska. The majority of the area will miss out. Any storms that do develop have the possibility to be severe. Large hail and strong wind gusts are possible. Later in the night, skies will clear up as temperatures drop back into the 60s and lower 70s for lows.

Tomorrow will be a bit cooler around the area with highs from the mid 80s north to the mid 90s south. Mostly dry weather is expected with mostly sunny skies on Wednesday. By Wednesday night, isolated showers and thunderstorms will again be possible. Chances for severe storms may be greater the farther northwest you go. Low temperatures tomorrow night will again drop into the 60s and lower 70s.

Slight chances for showers and thunderstorms will remain in the forecast every day through Sunday with the better chances later in the day or at night. As for temperatures, it’ll remain hot for several more days before cooling down as the weekend ends. High temperatures on Thursday will range from the mid 80s north to around 100° farther south. Highs on Friday will be in the upper 80s and low to mid 90s. Expect widespread 90s on Saturday. A big cooldown comes Sunday with highs from around 80° north to the upper 80s farther south. Monday will be a touch warmer in the mid to upper 80s and lower 90s as the next climb in temperatures begins.
