UPDATE: Cause of overnight house fire being investigated
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The State Fire Marshal’s office has been called out to investigate the cause of a house fire early Sunday morning in Hastings.
A neighbor called in the structure fire at 313 Jefferson Avenue at 2:18 a.m.
City of Hastings PIO Amanda Scott said 13 firefighters from Hastings Fire and three from Hastings Rural responding to the scene. Also on scene was Hastings Utilities, Hastings Police and Adams County Emergency Management.
When crews arrived, they saw heavy flames and smoke coming from the home. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in 10 minutes but a gas line did break inside the home. Once that was addressed, crews were able to maintain the control and work the scene, putting out hot spots that flared up.
Hastings Utilities did have to temporarily cut service to the area around 3rd and Jefferson as crews battled the fire.
Scott said the home was being renovated so it was vacant at the time of the fire.
Nobody was injured in the fire, except for one firefighter who had to be treated on scene for dehydration.
The home suffered severe damage though it’s unknown if it is considered a total loss.
