Tiger softball improves to 17-1, routs Adams Central 10-0 in 4 innings
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings High softball team is scary good this season. They entered Thursday night, 16-1 with a one-run loss to Elkhorn being the only blemish.
Since that loss back on September 4th, Hastings has gone 7-0 and outscored their opponents 87-7. Sheesh!
Thursday night, Hastings was the home team on the scoreboard as they took on cross-town rival Adams Central at the Smith Softball Complex.
That means Adams Central got the first crack at the plate, and Carlee Wissing took advantage with a nice line drive to left-center. The Patriots would go on to put runners on first and third with nobody out in the top of the first inning, but the Tigers had an answer.
A line drive to second base was snared by Emma Synek on a sliding catch, then she threw to first to turn the double play and get the Tigers out of the inning unscathed.
Hastings quickly turned that good defensive play into offense. With a runner already on first, Samantha Schmidt laid down what was supposed to be a sacrifice bunt, but she hustled it out and made it to first for an infield single. After that, the Tigers started clawing in runs.
Kaelan Schultz started the scoring with an RBI single that plated Sydni Johnson. The next batter was Delayney Mullen and she followed suit with an RBI double.
The rest was history as Hastings poured it on, winning 10-0 in four innings.
