NEAR KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - A rural Kearney teen was taken to the hospital after her car collided with a Union Pacific train Wednesday morning west of Kearney.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s office said the accident was reported at 7:48 AM on railroad tracks just south of the intersection of Highway 30 and Sartoria Road, which is about five miles west of Kearney. A 17-year-old rural Kearney female was driving a 2011 Kia Optima north on Sartoria Road when it ran into a west-bound Union Pacific train.

The Sheriff’s office said the teenager suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to CHI Good Samaritan hospital in Kearney. The cause of the accident was unclear other than the driver saying that she didn’t see the train.

There was no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.

The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department and CHI-GSH paramedics were also on the scene.
