Gibbon/GICC football game canceled following positive COVID test
GIBBON, Neb. (KSNB) - Grand Island Central Catholic and Gibbon High School had to cancel their football game this week after a Gibbon athlete tested positive for the COVID-19 and two others began to show symptoms.
To keep everyone safe, the school decided to quarantine the whole team for ten days after exposure. This means they will be allowed to return to school on Tuesday of next week.
As of Wednesday night, the district had seven active cases and about 50 students in quarantine. So far the football game is the only event affected by this situation.
“The only game, the only activity that’s been impacted has been our football program,” Superintendent Vernon Fisher said. “The school district is in the mote of wearing masks so students and staff are wearing masks at this time.”
Fisher said they will re-evaluate their policy after fourteen days.
