YWCA offering professional clothes to women searching for jobs
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - YWCA of Adam’s County has women a ‘career closet’ inside of the facility. The boutique-style closet holds clothes meant for women in the area searching for a job or who recently starting a new position.
Guests are asked to call and make an appointment for a time when they can come in and check out the career closet. Laura Stutte, executive director for the YWCA of Adam’s County, said women were allowed to take home up to five outfits home with them.
The organization offer items like, shirts, pants, shoes, accessories and more in a variety of sizes.
Stutte said they were asking people in the community to donate clothes they were looking to give away. She noted, most of the women they had come through the career closet were between the ages 20 and 40.
Stutte added, several of their items had tags on them from the store they were purchased at.
“We want the girls to feel like they’re shopping — it’s not about low-income families whatsoever — it’s just about helping women and empowering them to get a better job or start their career,” Stutte said. “We want to make they have everything in their pocket to feel good about themselves and smile before their interview.”
Stutte continued to say, in majority of occasions, they asked that only women searching for a job or who recently landed a job come in and look through the closet, but she noted, there were some acceptations to this policy.
“A lot of women who come through just don’t have the proper clothing, but they don’t have the self confidence sometimes either,” she said. “We do work closely with other nonprofits, so, if you have been in any kind of recovery and just need the extra self-confidence boost, we do help with that as well.”
The YWCA career closet is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
