Huskers defense gears up for big game in Minneapolis
LINCOLN, Neb. (KSNB) - Nebraska’s defensive coordinator, Erik Chinander, met with the media after Tuesday’s practice to talk strategy for the team’s game against an injury riddled Minnesota Golden Gophers football team.
UM is coming into this game without two of its starting running backs. But, Chinander does not want the team to put their guard down.
“He could be the next great one so we have to prepare like it is the best running back we have seen back there,” Chinander said.
The Gophers quarterback Tanner Morgan had a knock-out year in 2019 with over 3,000 yards passing and 30 touchdowns, but has yet to return to that level of play, but Chinander knows if the run game suffers they could turn to Morgan.
“You never know if they think their running game is not going to be where it needs to be they might start throwing the ball around they might have some interesting wrinkles put in there,” Chinander said.
Another area for the Huskers to worry about is time of possession, Minnesota ranks second in the Big Ten in that category. Chinander says that the teams needs to play error free on first and second downs to keep the ball in the offense’s hands.
You can watch the Huskers take on the Gophers on Saturday Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. on ESPN2 and on Huskers Radio Network.
