Five Star Performer: Tyson Denkert surpasses 5,000 yards
Kenesaw senior running back Tyson Denkert recently passed 5,000 yards rushing for his career
KENESAW, Neb. (KSNB) - When you watch Tyson Denkert run on Friday nights, it’s easy to see that he’s just built different.
As a running back for the Kenesaw Blue Devils, Denkert has a goal every play to fight for more yards.
“I try to go for an extra yard every single time I run, so if I’m getting hit in the legs try to put a hand down and try to get that extra yard,” Denkert explained.
That attitude has impressed his coach, Craig Schnitzler, his entire four years at Kenesaw.
“When you watch him play it’s all or nothing,” said Schnitzler. “He’s out here to be the best that he can be and help his team be successful.”
Last Friday against Blue Hill, Denkert surpassed 5,000 rushing yards for his career, joining a short list of other star athletes who also accomplished that goal.
Denkert says it’s thanks to his teammates that he was able to reach the accomplishment.
“My teammates open up the holes and then I can find my way through them. So we just gel together really nice, and we’re really successful with it,” said Denkert.
That success is what the Blue Devils hope will lead them through the postseason, to a state championship.
