HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Northwest softball team entered the Class B State Softball Tournament as the #5-seed, which for all-intensive purposes meant their game with #4-seed Bennington in the opening round was a toss-up.

It looked like it was going to go the Vikings’ way early, too. As Avyn Urbasnki stole second base in the top of the first inning, which helped set up the game’s first scoring play. That’s when Reyse Zobel grounded a ball sharply through the left side of the infield, plating both Urbanski and Maddy Cushing to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead.

Kyra Ray came around to score a few batters later on a pop fly that fell in front of the center fielder, which helped stake Northwest to an early 3-0 lead. However, Bennington climbed back into it quickly, then held on for a high-scoring 11-7 win.
