HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Day two of the Nebraska State Softball Tournament rolled into action Thursday. Lincoln East High School started the day off with a booming lead-off homerun to right field.

Thursday’s games led up to the championship games Friday, where three classes of high school softball would be crowned champions.

Heading into the tournaments weather was a big concern, for some people, but for the most part it had cooperated with with players and coaches.

State Softball Tournament director, Tracy Douglas, said they did see some weather issues but nothing that would derail the games.

“It’s a little cold this morning, but we think it’s going to warm up,” Douglas said. “I just got a report from the weather service that we need to be on the lookout for some sprinkles tonight, but we’re just going to keep things moving and hopefully it won’t come into play.”

In addition to organizing the state softball tournament, Douglas kept busy with her athletic director position at Hastings High School. She said the extra work did not bother her.

“We are kind of getting the hang of it after doing it for so many years,” She said. Its a lot of fun putting this together. I love hosting big events, and so this is right up my alley. Its just a lot of fun. Myself and my staff really enjoy it.”

Friday was the final day of action out at the Smith Softball Complex. Anyone interested in attending the tournament could get their tickets online. People were also able to livestream the action.
