GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Central Community College (CCC) received more than $8 million from the America Rescue Plan and more than half of it went to the students.

They wanted to give some of the grant money to students because many of them faced several financial challenges during the pandemic.

“When the pandemic hit, a lot of them lost their jobs, a lot of them could not go out or go find another job and the bills as we all know, the bills kept coming and so this makes it possible for the students to not only pay their tuition or any other things that they might need,” said Public Relations Director Scott Miller.

More than 6,000 students received awards ranging from $350 up to $2,000. The amount they received was based on enrollment and financial aid status.

“There are things that the college overall was affected by but the money needs to be given to students so they can focus on their education,” Miller said.
